Playground. Evji-Evji. Toun-Tounique.
A space of possibilities.
Where to start dialogues that seem impossible at this moment?
When we were kids we knew how to transform everything around us. Even the reality. We knew the secret language of toys, animals and all things around us. Our mind had no sense of limits.
If we’d ever feel uncomfortable somewhere we could turn the blanket into our shield and transport into a different dimension, where we'd feel safe. We were the ones who’d make the rules.
But once we grew older our mind got trapped in various versions of realities, pasts and futures.
Shaped by fears and limits we forget that we still hold that power to change. Welcome to the Playground, an exhibition by an art collective that showcases its first work with you, the “Evji-evji/toun-tounique” (home-home). Inspired by children’s boundless imagination and the blanket forts we all once used to create right in the living room of our parents.
Evji-Evji/Toun-Tounique is created by artists from countries bordering one another but divided by conflict. They are neighbors who have never seen one another, never had a chance to travel to each other’s homes.
Their every step towards one another isn’t an act of resistance, even if they just appear in the same room. In the current political texture even their presence in the same space is an act of rebellion and provocation.
But here, in evji-evji/toun-tounique, a space which they all have access to, they can do whatever they want. They make the rules.
Welcome to this space where we can reimagine connection, play with the rules, and make our versions of the Futures feel possible again.
Come in, join in and play with us.
But once you are out, let all you’ve seen here remain our secret.
